More about me

On top of therapy my other passion, which is also about helping people to know themselves better, is energy. More specifically the energy in our bodies, and the understanding of the Chakras and healing.

'The Sanskrit word Chakra literally translates to wheel or disk. In yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, this term refers to wheels of energy throughout the body. There are seven main chakras, which align along the spine, starting from the base and extending to the crown of the head. To visualize a chakra in the body, imagine a swirling wheel of energy where matter and consciousness meet. This invisible energy is a vital life force, which keeps us vibrant, healthy, and alive.'

I studied healing with the NFSH (Nacional Federation of Spirit Healers) in 1994 and later also learnt Reiki. I've followed a life-long journey of self development and discovery, through books, guides and teachers. On the way I have learned many things, like the benefits of Mindfulness, breathing, meditating, relaxation, heathy eating, respect and living from the heart, a more centred life. Lately I have discovered Laughter Yoga, and this has reinforced my love for laughter and its health benefits.

But of course you don't need to believe any of this... if anything we all agree that everything is or has energy, and that is basically what I have spend much of my life trying to understand.

You can experience a guided mediation of mine to help balance, heal and energize these centres here:

In 2013 I was inspired to write a book about the energy centers from a unique perspective, bringing together my understanding of energy and psychology. Its name is
The Seven Lies of the Human Race, and in it I take the reader on a journey of understanding about what happens to us in our lives that makes us who we are. It explores how we learn to believe or reject the lies we are exposed to, throughout our lives, and how this relates to the energy in our body.

Publisher’s description

“In this illuminating book, counsellor and healer Maria Veiga will take you through the patterns of resistance and denial that keep us from authentic happiness, self-expression and self-worth. Using the framework of the seven traditional energy centres, Maria shows how we fall into characteristic patterns of self-deception as we journey through life, revealing the origins of these ‘lies’ in experiences of infancy, adolescence and young adulthood. For the first time she shows how these energy centres relate to the common issues of people in psychotherapy and to the stages of pycho-social development.

“The Seven Lies is for anyone who wants to understand more about themselves. Maria’s deep experience and practical wisdom, enriched by stories of her own and others’ experiences, leads the reader on a spiritual journey towards balance, harmony and fulfilment. This is a book full of new and arresting information but, beyond that, it is also a fount of insightful and compassionate guidance from someone who has made this journey for herself.”

A must read. It’ll be the best gift you give yourself
Maria did such a wonderful job writing this book. I love how from the first page I was captured by her words, her humour and her truth. This book takes you on a journey, one of love and acceptance, to know and love the true you, flaws and all. Being able to read Maria’s life experiences gave the book depth. I couldn’t say enough good things about this book. Teresa Carey

Seeing Through
What I enjoyed most about this book was the way the archetypes can really relate to many people I know and also to myself. For me this is a book about demystifying the illusion that we unfortunately embrace for the sake of our comfort. We can’t change what happened in our past but we can choose what to do with it, and Maria gives us a very good clue about it. Darsy

The Seven Lies of the Human Race will be a monumental catalyst…
It’s hard to put into words how this book has affected me, right down to the core. Maria’s words have a way of reaching right into your very soul, you won’t be able to hide for too long. I don’t think it is possible to read it and not be challenged or changed in some way by some aspect of its content. You will begin to see the world, and more importantly yours elf, in a very different light. Miss V. Kelly

The Seven lies of the Human Race is available on and in all amazon stores, as a paperback, ebook and kindle.
